Overview of the Categories
Categories (Folders) on the Enterprise Server serve as containers for estimation projects. This allows you to organise and manage your enterprise server according to certain criteria, such as Contract Type or Year.
From the SMART Estimator Home Page, click on the Projects Tab. You’ll be presented with the Enterprise Server. As default, uncategorised estimation projects are listed in an Unnamed Category.
-
Creating a Category
To create your own category folder, select Categories from the dropdown menu. Then, select the Create New Category option from its submenu. A new category folder will be created on the Enterprise Server, automatically named “New Category”.
Empty Categories will be Automatically Deleted
When a category does not contain a project estimation, it is automatically deleted from the Enterprise Server once SMART Estimator is closed. A category must contain at least one project estimation in order to remain active; otherwise, it will be deleted.
-
Renaming a Category
If you would like to rename a category, you should first select the category that you would like to rename. Afterward, select Rename Category from the dropdown menu. When the prompt appears, type a new name for the category and press OK or hit the Enter key to update it.
Automatic Sorting of Categories
The categories are automatically sorted alphabetically and numerically, the same as how projects are organised within each category. After being renamed, the category is likely to have been sorted and moved to another location on the Enterprise Server.
-
Deleting a Category
To delete a category, start by selecting the category you wish to remove. Click on the Delete Category option in the Categories dropdown menu. Upon selecting this option, the category will be deleted from the Enterprise Server.
Projects within the Category will not be deleted
When a category is deleted, the projects contained within it will not be removed. All projects under the deleted category will be Uncategorised and automatically moved to the Unnamed folder.
-
Organising your Projects
Now that you know how to use the Categories. If you want to organise the enterprise server, begin by creating and renaming several categories to suit your needs. After your categories have been set up, drag and drop your projects into the appropriate category.
