SMART Compliance

SMART Compliance allows the rapid calculation of leg loads, tie duty and bridge beam checks for tube and fitting independent scaffolding. TG20:21 wind factor and the peak velocity pressure are also calculated for sites in the UK and Ireland. The application goes beyond TG20:21 and can be used on its own or the NASC TG20:21 eGuide when a client needs calculations or drawings.

The application is only available in the UK and Ireland. Suitable for Tube and Fitting only.

Ease of use

SMART Compliance is easy to learn and use by any competent person with an understanding of TG20:21 and requires no specialist engineering knowledge as it avoids complex inputs. The location of the scaffold can be selected on a Google Map and will then show the topography of the area. The comprehensive TG20:21 check makes it clear when the scaffold is within the bounds of TG20 and also creates scaffold drawings to illustrate the design, which can also be used with TG20 compliance sheets, a common request from contractors. The bridge beam calculation in SMART Compliance is the main highlight, allowing a bridge span of up to 20 metres to be designed, depending on the beam used. A library of beams is provided for the principal UK suppliers of beams for tube-and-fitting scaffolding – simply select the beam and the software will report whether it is adequate for the given scaffold. There is also the option to define your own beam. The automatic wind factor calculation, with well laid out calculation report, is useful for design engineers (for any scaffolding or temporary works calculations) or to complement a TG20:21 compliance sheet. The final output is in the form of a Word or PDF document and there is the option to produce a summary report, a calculation report or a detailed report.

Wind factor

  • Automatically calculate the TG20:21 wind factor for sites in the UK, Ireland and Channel Islands
  • Analysis in accordance with BS EN 1991-1-4 and compatible with BS 5975:2019 code of practice for temporary works
  • Calculate the peak velocity pressure
  • Show equations for submission to a Temporary Works department
  • Include a 3D render of the site topography
  • Graphical wind rose chart showing the TG20:21 wind factor from twelve directions
  • Automatic assessment of:
    • Site altitude
    • Topography
    • The distance to the shoreline
    • Whether the site is in a town, the countryside or by the sea
    • The distance within town terrain

TG20:21 check

  • Automatic and comprehensive TG20:21 check for tube and fitting independent scaffolding
  • Developed by the authors of TG20:21
  • Provides a clear, simple and comprehensive compliance report
  • Includes a drawing of the scaffold
  • Clearly states when a scaffold is not compliant and requires special attention
  • Provides suggestions to make a scaffold compliant whenever possible

Bridge design

  • Check a bridged opening in tube and fitting independent scaffolding
  • Calculations:
    • The load takedown onto the beam, including the effects of vertical and horizontal loads
    • Checks the moment and shear capacities of the beams
    • Checks the beam deflection
    • Checks the slip forces in the couplers supporting the beam and puncheons for EN 74 Class A or B couplers
    • Checks the leg loads in the supporting standards with the option to double the standards if required
  • Includes manufacturer catalogues of scaffold beams:
    • Presently: Apollo, DESSA, Generation, TRAD, plus TG20:21 compliant beams
    • Includes steel and aluminium beams with depths from 305 to 1330 mm
    • User-definable custom beams are supported
  • Bridge spans of up to 20 metres (depending on the chosen beam)
  • Calculation report includes the beam lacing and bracing diagram
  • Diagrams included for the moment capacity check, shear capacity check, deflection check and coupler slip check

Leg loads

Calculates the leg loads for independent scaffolding.

  • Calculates:
    • The leg loads at the inner and outer faces
    • The leg loads at the standards supporting a bridge
    • Suitable for foundation design and for the scaffold design checks
    • Loads automatically calculated in accordance with BS EN 12811-1 and BS EN 1991-1-4, including in-service wind, out-of-service wind and notional loads
  • Supports:
    • Scaffolds of various dimensions: bay length, lift height, width and inside boards
    • Fully boarded or part boarded scaffolds
    • Options for inner and outer edge protection
    • BS EN 12811-1 load classes 1 – 4
    • Light loaded or fully loaded inside boards
    • An optional light duty cantilever fan
    • An optional bridged opening

Tie duty

  • Calculate the tie duty for independent scaffolding
  • Supports the TG20:21 tie patterns and automatically calculates the tie positions
  • Automatic wind factor assessment from the site location
  • Checks the tie duty against the building façade capacity if it’s known
  • Loads automatically calculated in accordance with BS EN 12811-1 and BS EN 1991-1-4, including in-service wind, out-of-service wind and notional loads
  • Identifies any localised areas where ties of a higher duty are required, such as those supporting a cantilever fan
  • Supports:
    • Unclad scaffolding, brick guards, debris netting and sheeting
    • Impermeable or permeable façade (for unclad or brick guards)
    • An optional light duty cantilever fan
    • An optional bridged opening

Reports

You have the choice of a summary, calculations or a detailed report. These reports can be used standalone or to complement the NASC’s eGuide compliance sheets.
